CRITIQUE BY THE PIANO BOOKThe Piano Book is a well-known industry reference guide highly respected for its accurate critique of the construction of pianos available in the industry today. The Piano Book, now in its Fourth Edition, has been the standard consumer reference in the piano business in the United States and Canada since 1984 and is the only book of its kind. "Kimball a name with a long history in the piano world is now being produced by Kimball Piano USA, Inc. which acquired the rights to the Kimball name in 2005. Kimball International, the previous owner of the brand, which produced pianos from 1959-1996, was primarily a furniture maker that mass produced a very average piano.
In contrast, Kimball is now controlled by an American piano technician who has returned Kimball to its historical roots in Chicago and says he is placing the company’s focus on the musical instrument and on technical details of American piano design and construction. The result of this new focus is a new line of Kimball grands that include the 5’1” Model K-1 and the 6’2” Model K-3. In 2008, Kimball introduced its new line of verticals, the K-44 is a 44” American furniture console with hand-rubbed lacquer finishes in Cherry and Oak. The K-49 is a 49” Upright utilizing full Agraffes and a German Strunz premium solid spruce soundboard."
